It’s time to say goodbye to this blog.

A lot has changed in my life since I started writing here a little more than a year ago. I’ve experienced heartbreaks and whirlwind romances, both humanizing and beautiful in their own right. I’ve burned bridges and mended them, only to burn several down again. I’ve travelled and I’ve stayed put. I’ve been there for people and I’ve had people there for me. I’ve said, done, and seen things that only a select few have been privy to knowing. I’ve learned much about myself and the world that I was thrust into 22 years ago. If I had to say anything at all, it would be that I have had many experiences that have fundamentally and irrevocably changed the eyes through which I view the world.

Now, I like to write. For me writing is a way to sort through that tangled ball of string that is my brain and pull out a single thread in an attempt to untangle the whole knotted, twisted mess. What a complete lark, then, that my blog should be filled with so many images and words, none of which are my own!

I’d be a liar if I said that I write even half as much as I think about writing, and an even bigger one if I told you that I felt like I could write here openly and honestly. The truth is that there are too many people in this world that would read a web page like this and pass judgment without ever choosing to delve further into the story. Though public scrutiny certainly doesn’t frighten me, small-minded folk with narrow perspectives do often find their way into power and I would be a fool to ignore that.

Cynical much?

Maybe not. Maybe I still see the world through these rosy colored glasses that I have permanently affixed to my head. Maybe I’m not nearly as cynical as I should be. The jury’s still out on that one.

The long and short of it is that I will closing up shop here as of today. I would like to direct my energy into some new projects as well as work on being a person that I can respect a bit more.

For what it’s worth, I will leave you with these last little tidbits of advice:

You can do all those ‘forbidden’ things in life, just not at the same time and not without knowing your limits.
Everyone fucks up. The true test of a person is how they recover from a fuck up and whether they learn from it.
Situations aren’t always as they initially seem and you’ll save yourself a lot of headache (and heartache) if you just be direct about what is on your mind.
Being your toughest critic is good because you’ll always strive for perfection. Don’t get yourself down this way. Try to learn from every experience and build
Don’t be a dick if you can help it.
Confidence combined with the willingness to learn and the being too stubborn to fail will take you anywhere you want to go in life.
Whatever you do, have fun and make the most of every day. Relax, no one else really knows what they’re doing either.

When I worked at Kinkos a few years ago, I worked with a guy named Dave. Like many Kinkoids, Dave was a graphic artist who worked there to make ends meet due to the unpredictable cash flow one receives from freelance work. One day in the break room I saw Dave writing in a spiral notebook and I asked him, “Dave, why do you keep a journal?” His hand stopped writing and his head lifted as if and idea had somehow made it lighter. After a brief pause, he turned and told me,

“I keep a journal so that I don’t make the same mistake twice.”

This has always stuck with me.
