When I worked at Kinkos a few years ago, I worked with a guy named Dave.  Like many Kinkoids, Dave was a graphic artist who worked there to make ends meet due to the unpredictable cash flow one receives from freelance work.  One day in the break room I saw Dave writing in a spiral notebook and I asked him, “Dave, why do you keep a journal?”  His hand stopped writing and his head lifted as if and idea had somehow made it lighter.  After a brief pause, he turned and told me,

“I keep a journal so that I don’t make the same mistake twice.”

This has always stuck with me.
